MOLYKOTE Smart Lubrication
MOLYKOTE® is a range of specialty lubricants from DuPont. Back in 1948 American scientist Alfred Sonntag introduced the first molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) lubricants and with it the MOLYKOTE® brand. The MOLYKOTE® range of lubricants is trusted by engineers, OEM's and product designers Worldwide for their ability to meet tough lubrication challenges.
Product Categories
Anti-Friction Coatings
Dry film lubricant coatings are designed to be used on areas where a liquid lubricant would not work. These anti-friction coatings reduce the effect of the sliding motion to prevent wear to components and provide a smoother action.
Pastes
Using solid lubricants MOLYKOTE Pastes are greaselike materials that are dispersed in oil for convenient application. These high-quality pastes are ideal for the lubrication of highly-loaded, slow-moving parts and threaded fasteners.
Compounds
Whether you're looking for a release compound, O-ring lubrication or vacuum sealing MOLYKOTE Compounds provide outstanding lubrication and protection by resisting oxidation and thermal degradation.
Greases
MOLYKOTE greases are designed for use on rolling element bearings and other moving parts. They are intended to be used in extreme conditions including extreme pressure, harsh chemical environments and low and high temperatures.
Case Studies
MOLYKOTE® M-77 Paste reduces noise in electric vehicle battery pack
As the transportation industry electrifies and consumer demand for electric vehicles (EVs) grows, battery manufacturers are finding opportunities in meeting the needs of the expanding market. EV and battery manufacturers seek lighter weight, yet more compact, solutions to gain additional energy density and reduce cost. One immediate route to achieving these goals is eliminating the housings of battery modules and instead bonding individual cells directly to the cooling plate, a strategy known as “cell-to-pack.”
Sunroof Guide Lubrication with MOLYKOTE® Specialty PAO Grease
An application-matched lubrication technology that could deliver consistently low friction was needed to ensure proper opening and closing forces across a range of sliding-roof designs. Low-temperature performance was a critical design parameter. Other key requirements added to the development challenge: The solution needed to address priorities such as a clean appearance, reduced noise, safety for vehicle occupants, compatibility with plastic materials, durability for extended service, and design flexibility for larger and more complex sliding roofs in the future.
MOLYKOTE® Multipurpose Grease Quadruples Kiln Seal Replacement Service Life
The grease was quickly oxidizing from constantly being heated to +130°C and being exposed to coke dust. There was wear on the contacting plate. As a result, the kiln seal was failing, resulting in coke being emitted into the atmosphere. The previously used lithium-based grease (with EP additives) did not withstand the higher temperatures or abrasive dust particles.
