When it comes to paint colours trends move as quickly as catwalk fashion. In fact, sometimes fashion trends inform colour trends. We like to stay up to date with what is hot and what's not so we can keep you up to date on what customers might be asking for.
What is the 2018 paint colour of the year?
Heart Wood - Dulux Colour of the Year 2018.
Paint colour of the year is usually driven by the paint manufacturers themselves and this year is no different. The 2018 colour of the year comes from Dulux, they state the colour can be used in different ways, either to create a cosy and calm environment or with the right home accessories and colour combinations can create an "energetic or relaxed" feel.
Getting the perfect finish
Having the latest trend is one thing but getting the perfect finish is another. We always recommend using the right equipment for the job. Depending on the surface you are painting depends on the tools you will need. Here is quick guide.
- Masking tape - The first step to a perfect finish is the preparation. Using a good quality masking tape like the ProDec Advance or tesa® Precision Edge tape will give you a nice clean, sharp edge and more importantly won't remove all your hard work when you come to peel it off.
- A good roller - For large areas you will need a good quality roller and roller sleeve to give you a nice smooth finish. If you have nice freshly plastered walls then a short pile roller sleeve like the ProDec Advance roller will be perfect. For more uneven walls a medium pile roller sleeve will be better as it will ride the bumps in the wall better.
- Good quality brushes - Although a good workman never blames their tools a good quality brush makes all the difference. For water based paints you need to use a synthetic bristle brush like the ProDec X-Zero or Purdy Monarch Elite. Good quality brushes give an excellent finish, hold more paint and release paint more evenly so you do less visits to the paint tin and get the job done quicker and to a higher standard.
Now you have the basics you can paint away and get a fantastic finish and your customer will be happy.
